Vacation Rentals in Miramar
Miramar is surely the place with most vacation rentals in Havana City, there are of any kinds, rooms or complete homes. Despite the fact that the zone is among the most featured, there still have good offers in Miramar.
General Description of Miramar
Miramar belongs to the Playa municipality and it's the residential district by excellence of Havana. Is where you can find most vaction rentals for tourists, embassies, business offices and working centers. In the same municipality, there are also other prestige neighborhoods, like El Náutico, Flores, Cubanacán and Siboney, some of them even more residential than Miramar, but this latter is certainly the most popular. Contrary to the Nuevo Vedado neighborhood, which is more elitist and "aristocracy" oriented, Miramar is not only a residential area, is also a recreational and productive place, where you can find the best shopping centers, many hotels, recreational, cultural and sportive sites. Miramar is synonym of modernity and peacefulness in a business and diplomatic fashion.
During the 50s, in order to attract the upper middle class, a new luxury district was settled in Havana, Miramar, where the main avenue, the 5th Avenue, had intentionally the same name of the popular 5th Avenue of New York. This avenue is the natural continuation of the Malecón littoral, at the other side of Almendare river. Most people consider the 5th Avenue as the best and more beautiful street of Cuba. Its squares are built as the imitation of these of Manhattan and most houses are luxury estates with eclectic façades, wide gardens and swimming pools.
Before the Cuban Revolution, most millionaires lived in Miramar, especially in the 5th Avenue. After the Revolution, most of them left Cuba to migrate in the United States and most of these houses were converted in embassies or state organizations. But you can still find personal estates. After the Soviet Union débâcle and the tourism boom in Cuba, the area acquired an investment and tourist image. Many hotels were built mixing the neocolonial style with the glassy neo-modern architecture. Among the most relevant zones we have to cite the Miramar Trade Center, the Meliá Habana, International Miramar and Panorama hotels, the Conventions Palace, the colossal Church of Jesus of Miramar (near to 5th Avenue and 84 street), the Russian Embassy, which has a very distinctive architecture, the big disco club La Cecilia, lots of state and private (recent) restaurants, the Palco shopping center (in the Flores neighborhood), which is the one that offers most of imported products (taking into account the general product shortage, which is omnipresent and now more accented), the head branches of the Metropolitan Bank (first roundaboutof 5th Avenue) and the International Financial Bank (BFI) (5th Avenue and 92 street) and much more.
For this and many other reasons, Miramar is today one of the major destinations of tourists in Cuba and between the most requested and featured in the vacation rental of casas particulares in Havana.
