Marianao
Marianao is an hybrid zone. It only has about two relatively residential neighborhoods, while the rest is considered as third order, from the tourist point of view. Obviously, the best zones feature a lot of interesting vacation rental houses, while you can find sales are about everywhere in the municipality.
General Description of Marianao
As said, not all zones of Marianao are important and some of them are definitively marginal but there are some districts, especially these located in the limit with the Playa municipality, having gorgeous vacation rental houses, sometimes for a price more competitive than any other house in more popular neighborhoods.
The Marianao name derive from an indigenous term, which mean "between two waters", in reference to its geographic position between the Almendares and the Quibú rivers. Marianao is a municipality rich in history and traditions, marked by relevant events in culture, politics, social and economic. It was recognized as a municipality in the division made in 1878. It begins with the 76th street and ends with La Lisa bridge.
The main advantage of Marianao is that, in spite of being a peripheric and more economic affordable area, it keeps the prestige of more luxurious districts and the nearness with these latters, without being too much in the edge at the same time, as it happen with La Lisa municipality, which is the last one in the west of Havana province or the Boyeros municipality, which is one of the biggest. Marianao is near to the international airport, the main highways, especially the Pinar del Río one or the called Novia del Medio Día. It's relatively near to the Siboney neighborhood, the Havana Club, the Palco shopping center and important hospitals like the Cimex, the Maternidad Obrera, the ophthalmologic one (nicknamed "La Ceguera") and the orthopedic Frank País, without counting its closeness with the Tropicana cabaret.
